Aroma Orbit is an interactive artwork in which black and white sesame become two living fields of matter, motion and energy. Visitors do not simply observe the composition—they disturb it. Dragging produces vortices, touch draws particles inward, tapping releases waves of roast energy, and pinching collapses the boundary between the two seed identities. The work begins as an abstract visual encounter, then gradually reveals the sensory science beneath it: flavour emerging through the interaction of material, heat, aroma, threshold and human perception.
Black and white sesame are not merely the same seed presented in different colours. They represent distinct seed-coat types or cultivars and are often encountered in different commercial forms: black sesame commonly remains hull-on, while pale or white sesame is frequently hulled. These differences create sensory tendencies rather than fixed rules. Black sesame often appears earthier, huskier, darker and slightly more bitter-edged; white sesame often appears cleaner, sweeter, creamier and more delicate. As roast energy increases, both identities move through green, cereal, nutty, caramel, bread-crust, coffee and smoky territories—allowing the visitor to explore where they separate, overlap and transform.
AROMA ORBITBlack sesame × white sesame
Touch the field before reading it. Drag to create vortices, hold to pull matter inward, tap to send heat through the system, and pinch to collapse the boundary.
Usually hull-on; often earthier, huskier and darker.
Frequently hulled; often cleaner, sweeter and more delicate.
Gesture idle
Energy quiet
Two sesame identities. Not a colour swap.
Aroma Orbit begins as an artwork and only later reveals its sensory logic.
Black sesame and pale/white sesame should not be framed as the same seed with a different paint job. They are distinct seed-coat colour types or cultivars, and they are commonly encountered in different commercial forms.
Black sesame is often sold with its dark coat intact and can read fuller, earthier, huskier and slightly more bitter-edged. Pale or white sesame is frequently hulled and may read cleaner, sweeter, creamier and more delicate. These are tendencies rather than fixed rules.
Roast can magnify, blur or partially reverse the contrast. That uncertainty is part of the artwork: material and process constantly reshape perception.
Black sesame
White sesame
Directional sensory model only. Cultivar, hull status, origin, roast, moisture, freshness, milling and storage can outweigh colour alone.
Pull aroma into gravity.
Drag a field toward the core to intensify it. Tap a field to reveal the science beneath its motion.
Flavour is a moving interpretation.
The work never assigns one immutable smell to one seed colour. It lets the visitor destabilize the distinction, amplify roast, suppress green character and pull trace impact into the centre. What emerges is not a diagram of sesame, but a portrait of material, process and perception continuously remaking one another.
